- Operate and maintain the heart-lung machine during surgical procedures in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
- Monitor and adjust the heart-lung machine to ensure proper functioning and patient safety.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement appropriate perfusion strategies for each individual patient.
- Accurately record and document perfusion data, including flow rates, pressures, and other relevant information.
- Maintain a clean and sterile surgical environment, including cleaning and sterilizing perfusion equipment.
- Calibrate and troubleshoot perfusion equipment to ensure proper functioning and accuracy.
- Educate patients and their families on the perfusion process and address any questions or concerns.
- Stay current on new technologies and advances in perfusion techniques, and make recommendations for improvement within the department.
- Adhere to all safety standards and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in developing and implementing new protocols and procedures.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, working closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.
- Maintain all required certifications and licenses, and participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations related to perfusion.
- Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the perfusion process.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to provide high-quality and compassionate care.
Bachelor's Degree In Perfusion Or Related Field: Northwell Health Requires All Perfusionists To Have A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Perfusion Or A Related Field From An Accredited Institution.
Certification By The American Board Of Cardiovascular Perfusion (Abcp): Candidates Must Be Certified By The Abcp To Be Considered For A Perfusionist Position At Northwell Health. This Certification Ensures That The Candidate Has Met The National Standards For The Practice Of Perfusion.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In A Clinical Setting: Northwell Health Prefers Candidates With At Least 2 Years Of Experience Working In A Clinical Setting As A Perfusionist. This Experience Demonstrates The Candidate's Ability To Handle Complex Cases And Work Well In A Team.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Perfusionists At Northwell Health Must Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Communicate With Patients, Their Families, And Other Healthcare Professionals.
