Job Description

Northwell Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Oncology Psychologist to join our team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide essential psychological support to cancer patients and their loved ones throughout their treatment journey.   1. Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations of cancer patients and their families to assess emotional and mental health needs.
  2. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients, utilizing evidence-based therapies and techniques.
  3. Provide ongoing counseling and support to patients and their families, addressing issues such as coping with diagnosis, treatment side effects, and end-of-life challenges.
  4. Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, including oncologists, nurses, and social workers, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for patients.
  5. Conduct group therapy sessions for patients and their families, facilitating discussions and providing education on coping strategies and self-care.
  6. Educate patients and families on the importance of mental health and the impact of cancer on emotional well-being.
  7. Document patient progress and treatment plans in a timely and accurate manner.
  8. Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in oncology psychology, implementing new techniques and approaches as appropriate.
  9. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences to discuss patient care and treatment plans.
  10. Advocate for the emotional and mental health needs of cancer patients and their families within the larger healthcare system.
  11. Maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor while working with patients and families, creating a supportive and safe environment for them to share their concerns and emotions.
  12. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in all aspects of patient care and maintain patient confidentiality.
  13. Continuously assess and monitor patient progress and make adjustments to treatment plans as needed.
  14. Participate in outreach activities and educational initiatives to raise awareness of the importance of mental health in cancer care.
  15. Collaborate with community resources and support groups to provide additional support for patients and families.

Job Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree In Clinical Psychology Or Counseling Psychology With Specialized Training In Oncology

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working With Cancer Patients And Their Families In A Healthcare Setting

  • Knowledge And Understanding Of The Psychological Impact Of Cancer On Patients And Their Loved Ones

  • Ability To Provide Evidence-Based Interventions And Support To Promote Coping And Adjustment To Cancer Diagnosis And Treatment

  • Strong Communication And Collaboration Skills To Work Effectively With Interdisciplinary Teams And Provide Consultations To Medical Staff And Other Healthcare Professionals.
