- Perform blood typing and cross-matching to ensure accurate compatibility for blood transfusions.
- Prepare and process blood products such as red blood cells, platelets, plasma, and cryoprecipitate.
- Conduct quality control procedures to ensure the safety and effectiveness of blood products.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all procedures and results.
- Follow strict safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Communicate with healthcare providers to provide information on blood product availability and compatibility.
- Troubleshoot any issues or discrepancies with blood products and report any abnormalities.
- Keep up-to-date with new technology, techniques, and regulations in the field of blood banking.
- Train and supervise new staff members and students in the blood bank department.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and efficient delivery of blood products to patients.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of blood bank operations.
- Adhere to all Northwell Health policies and procedures, as well as federal and state regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients and their families during the blood donation process.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of new processes and protocols.
Bachelor's Degree In Medical Technology Or A Related Field.
Certification As A Medical Laboratory Scientist (Mls) Or Medical Technologist (Mt) From A Nationally Recognized Organization.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In A Blood Bank Or Transfusion Service Laboratory.
Knowledge And Understanding Of Blood Banking Principles, Procedures, And Regulations.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Effectively In A Fast-Paced Environment.
