- Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and security of Nelnet's data.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all data governance related matters, working closely with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve data issues.
- Proactively monitor and analyze data quality metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Partner with business leaders to understand their data needs and provide guidance on data governance best practices.
- Lead the development and maintenance of data standards, data dictionaries, and data lineage documentation.
- Collaborate with IT teams to implement data quality controls and ensure data integrity throughout the data lifecycle.
- Keep up-to-date with regulatory requirements related to data governance and ensure Nelnet's compliance.
- Develop and deliver training programs to promote understanding and adoption of data governance policies and procedures.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance data governance processes.
- Lead data governance projects and initiatives, effectively managing timelines, resources, and stakeholders.
- Communicate complex data governance concepts and initiatives to a wide range of audiences, including senior management.
- Mentor and coach junior data governance team members, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Collaborate with external partners and vendors to ensure data governance practices are aligned with industry standards.
- Act as a subject matter expert on data governance, staying informed of industry trends and best practices.

Extensive Knowledge Of Data Governance Principles And Best Practices: The Lead Data Steward At Nelnet Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Data Governance Principles, Including Data Quality, Data Security, Data Privacy, And Data Management.
Strong Technical Skills: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess Strong Technical Skills And Have Experience Working With Data Governance Tools And Technologies. They Should Also Have A Good Understanding Of Data Architecture And Data Modeling.
Experience In Data Governance And Stewardship: A Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Data Governance And Stewardship Is Required For This Role. The Candidate Should Have A Proven Track Record Of Developing And Implementing Effective Data Governance Strategies.
Excellent Communication And Collaboration Skills: The Lead Data Steward Will Be Responsible For Working With Cross-Functional Teams, Including It, Business Stakeholders, And Data Owners. Excellent Communication And Collaboration Skills Are Essential For This Role.
