  1. Provide compassionate and high-quality nursing care to newborns and their families in the Stork/Special Care Nursery.
  2. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for each patient.
  3. Monitor and document patient progress, including vital signs, medications, and treatments.
  4. Educate and support families on newborn care, including feeding, hygiene, and safety measures.
  5. Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, procedures, and protocols.
  6. Utilize critical thinking skills to identify and address any potential health complications or concerns in a timely manner.
  7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
  8. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  9. Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families during a potentially stressful time.
  10. Stay current on best practices and advances in neonatal nursing through ongoing education and training.
  11. Participate in performance improvement initiatives and contribute ideas for process improvement.
  12. Maintain a clean and safe work environment for patients, families, and colleagues.
  13. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  14. Adhere to ethical and legal standards of nursing practice.
  15. Serve as a mentor to new or less experienced nurses, providing guidance and support as needed.

Job Qualifications
  • Current Rn License In The State Of South Carolina: The First And Foremost Qualification For A Registered Nurse In The Stork/Special Care Nursery At Musc Health Is A Valid And Active Rn License In The State Of South Carolina. This Ensures That The Nurse Has Met All The Necessary Requirements And Is Legally Allowed To Practice Nursing In The State.

  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing (Bsn): Musc Health Prefers Candidates With A Bsn Degree As It Provides A More Comprehensive Education And Prepares Nurses For Advanced Roles In Patient Care. A Bsn Also Demonstrates A Commitment To Continuous Learning And Professional Growth.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Neonatal Or Pediatric Nursing: Due To The Specialized Nature Of The Stork/Special Care Nursery, Musc Health Requires Candidates To Have At Least 2 Years Of Experience In Neonatal Or Pediatric Nursing. This Ensures That The Nurse Has A Strong Foundation In Caring For Newborns And Is Familiar With The Unique Challenges Of Caring For Infants.

  • Bls And Nrp Certification: Musc Health Requires All Rns In The Stork/Special Care Nursery To Have Current Basic Life Support (Bls) And Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Nrp) Certifications. These Certifications Demonstrate That The Nurse Is Trained And Prepared To Handle Emergency Situations That May Arise In The Nursery.

  • Excellent Communication And Teamwork Skills: In Addition To Clinical Skills, Musc Health Values Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills In Their Rns. The Stork/Special Care Nursery Is A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment, And Effective Communication And Collaboration Are Crucial For Providing The Best Care For Newborns And Their Families.
