  1. Conduct sleep studies: Perform overnight polysomnograms and multiple sleep latency tests to diagnose sleep disorders in patients.
  2. Monitor patients during sleep studies: Observe patients throughout the night, monitoring their sleep patterns, breathing, and other physiological parameters.
  3. Record and analyze data: Accurately record and analyze data collected during sleep studies, including brain waves, eye movements, muscle activity, and breathing patterns.
  4. Set up and calibrate equipment: Ensure all equipment is properly set up and calibrated for each sleep study, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  5. Educate patients: Explain the sleep study process to patients and answer any questions they may have. Provide instructions for proper use of equipment and positioning during the study.
  6. Collaborate with healthcare team: Work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans for patients with sleep disorders.
  7. Troubleshoot technical issues: Troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise during sleep studies, ensuring accurate and reliable data collection.
  8. Maintain records: Maintain accurate and detailed records of sleep studies, including patient information, test results, and any interventions or treatments administered.
  9. Adhere to safety protocols: Follow all safety protocols and infection control measures to maintain a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
  10. Continuously learn and improve: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments and techniques in sleep medicine, and participate in ongoing training and education to continually improve skills and knowledge.
  11. Provide exceptional patient care: Deliver compassionate and high-quality care to patients, ensuring their physical and emotional comfort throughout the sleep study process.
  12. Adhere to professional standards: Conduct all duties with professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
  13. Adhere to organizational policies: Follow all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to patient care, safety, and documentation.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification: A Polysomnographic Sleep Technologist At Musc Health Must Hold A Current Certification From The Board Of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (Brpt).

  • Education: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess A Minimum Of An Associate’s Degree In A Healthcare-Related Field, Such As Respiratory Therapy, Nursing, Or Polysomnography.

  • Experience: Musc Health Prefers Candidates With At Least 1-2 Years Of Experience In A Clinical Setting, Preferably In Sleep Medicine Or A Related Field.

  • Technical Skills: The Candidate Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Sleep Disorders, Diagnostic Equipment, And Various Sleep Study Protocols. Proficiency In Computer Software And Data Analysis Is Also Required.

  • Interpersonal Skills: As A Part Of The Healthcare Team, The Candidate Must Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Interact With Patients, Physicians, And Other Healthcare Professionals. They Should Also Be Able To Work Well Under Pressure And In A Fast-Paced Environment.
