  1. Perform surgical procedures to treat diseases and disorders of the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.
  2. Evaluate and diagnose patients with neurological conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  3. Communicate with patients and their families to provide education and support throughout the treatment process.
  4. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including neurologists, oncologists, and physical therapists, to provide comprehensive care for patients.
  5. Stay up-to-date on advancements in the field of neurosurgery and incorporate new techniques and technologies into practice.
  6. Maintain accurate and thorough medical records for all patients.
  7. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of patients and staff.
  8. Participate in departmental meetings and conferences to discuss patient cases and share knowledge with colleagues.
  9. Mentor and supervise medical residents and fellows in their training and education.
  10. Maintain a compassionate and professional demeanor at all times, providing emotional support to patients and their families.
  11. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including ethical standards and patient confidentiality.
  12. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  13. Attend continuing education courses and conferences to stay current on best practices and advancements in neurosurgery.
  14. Represent MUSC Health in a positive manner and contribute to the overall mission and goals of the organization.
  15. Adhere to all regulatory and accreditation standards, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Job Qualifications
  • Medical Degree: A Neurosurgeon At Musc Health Columbia Medical Center Must Have Completed A Doctor Of Medicine (Md) Or Doctor Of Osteopathic Medicine (Do) Degree From An Accredited Medical School.

  • Residency Training: Candidates Must Have Completed A 7-Year Residency Program In Neurosurgery At An Accredited Institution. This Includes Extensive Training In Surgical Techniques, Patient Care, And Research.

  • Board Certification: Candidates Must Be Board Certified By The American Board Of Neurological Surgery (Abns) Or The American Osteopathic Board Of Surgery (Aobs). This Certification Ensures That The Neurosurgeon Has Met The Highest Standards Of Clinical Knowledge And Surgical Skills.

  • State Licensure: Candidates Must Be Licensed To Practice Medicine In The State Of South Carolina, Where Musc Health Columbia Medical Center Is Located. This Requires Passing The United States Medical Licensing Examination (Usmle) Or The Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (Comlex).

  • Experience: Musc Health Columbia Medical Center Seeks Candidates With At Least 5 Years Of Experience In Neurosurgery. This Includes Experience In Both Routine And Complex Surgical Procedures, As Well As Managing A Diverse Range Of Neurological Conditions.
