- Perform comprehensive ophthalmic patient evaluations, including visual acuity, visual fields, and intraocular pressure measurement.
- Assist ophthalmologists in various procedures such as refractions, tonometry, and scribing.
- Prepare and maintain ophthalmic equipment, instruments, and supplies for patient care.
- Educate patients on proper eye care and assist in the selection and fitting of eyeglasses or contact lenses.
- Document patient care accurately and maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in ophthalmology and attend training sessions and conferences as required.
- Provide exceptional customer service and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to promote safety and efficiency.
- Adhere to all MUSC Health policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Train and supervise non-certified ophthalmic assistants and ensure compliance with protocols and standards.
- Continuously assess and improve processes to enhance overall patient care and experience.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in data collection and analysis.
- Handle administrative tasks, including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and verifying insurance coverage.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and standards, including OSHA and JCAHO.
- Act as a positive and professional representative of MUSC Health at all times.
Certification: The First Qualification For A Musc Health Muscp - Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Cot), Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Coa), Or Non-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Ncoa) Job Is Certification. Musc Health Requires All Ophthalmic Technicians To Be Certified Through Either The Joint Commission On Allied Health Personnel In Ophthalmology (Jcahpo) Or The American Academy Of Ophthalmology (Aao).
Education And Training: The Second Qualification For A Musc Health Muscp - Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Cot), Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Coa), Or Non-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Ncoa) Job Is Education And Training. Candidates Must Have Completed A Formal Education Program Or Have Equivalent Work Experience In The Field Of Ophthalmology.
Experience: The Third Qualification For A Musc Health Muscp - Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Cot), Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Coa), Or Non-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Ncoa) Job Is Experience. Musc Health Prefers Candidates With At Least 2-3 Years Of Experience In A Clinical Setting, Preferably In Ophthalmology.
