- Develop and implement overall goals, objectives, and strategic plans for the internal medicine residency program in alignment with the mission and vision of MUSC Health.
- Create and maintain a dynamic and innovative curriculum that meets the educational needs of residents and prepares them for successful careers in internal medicine.
- Provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to residents, including career counseling and support for scholarly activities.
- Lead and oversee the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of residents, ensuring a diverse and high-quality cohort.
- Collaborate with faculty and other staff to ensure that the program meets accreditation standards and maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with affiliated hospitals, clinics, and other external partners to enhance the educational experience of residents.
- Oversee the scheduling of rotations, didactic sessions, and other educational activities.
- Monitor resident progress and performance, provide regular feedback, and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
- Foster a culture of excellence, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the residency program.
- Participate in the development and management of the program budget, including identifying and securing funding sources for resident training and educational activities.
- Stay current with developments in medical education and incorporate best practices into the residency program.
- Serve as a liaison and advocate for the residency program within the larger healthcare community.
- Represent the residency program at conferences, meetings, and other events to promote the program and recruit potential applicants.
- Support and participate in scholarly activities, including research, quality improvement initiatives, and other educational projects.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations, including those related to resident education, patient care, and workplace safety.
Board Certification In Internal Medicine: The Ideal Candidate For An Internal Medicine Residency Program Director At Musc Health Should Be Board Certified In Internal Medicine. This Demonstrates A High Level Of Expertise And Knowledge In The Field.
Previous Residency Program Leadership Experience: The Candidate Should Have Previous Experience As A Program Director Or Associate Program Director For An Internal Medicine Residency Program. This Experience Will Demonstrate The Candidate's Ability To Lead And Manage A Successful Residency Program.
Strong Teaching And Mentoring Skills: The Program Director Should Possess Strong Teaching And Mentoring Skills To Effectively Guide And Support The Residents In Their Training. This Includes The Ability To Provide Constructive Feedback And Create A Positive Learning Environment.
Excellent Communication And Organizational Skills: As The Leader Of The Residency Program, The Program Director Must Have Excellent Communication And Organizational Skills To Effectively Manage The Program And Its Administrative Tasks. This Includes Coordinating Schedules, Communicating With Residents And Faculty, And Overseeing Program Evaluations.
Knowledge Of Accreditation And Regulatory Standards: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Accreditation And Regulatory Standards For Residency Programs, Including The Accreditation Council For Graduate Medical Education (Acgme) Requirements.
