- Perform comprehensive ophthalmic patient evaluations, including visual acuity testing, slit lamp examinations, and tonometry.
- Administer diagnostic tests such as visual field testing, corneal topography, and optical coherence tomography.
- Assisting ophthalmologists in various procedures, including cataract surgery, LASIK, and other surgical procedures.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including documenting medical history and test results.
- Educate patients on eye health and proper care, including contact lens insertion and removal techniques.
- Calibrate and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments.
- Communicate with patients and their families regarding treatment plans and follow-up care.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive and coordinated care to patients.
- Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements in ophthalmic technology and techniques.
- Train and supervise new ophthalmic technicians and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with patients and colleagues.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to established standards of care.
- Provide excellent customer service and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of MUSC Health.
Completion Of An Accredited Ophthalmic Technician Training Program: Candidates Must Have Completed A Recognized Training Program Or Have Equivalent Experience In Ophthalmic Technology.
Certification As A Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Cot): A Cot Certification From The Joint Commission On Allied Health Personnel In Ophthalmology (Jcahpo) Is Preferred And Demonstrates A High Level Of Knowledge And Skill In The Field.
In-Depth Knowledge Of Ophthalmic Equipment And Procedures: Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Diagnostic And Surgical Equipment Used In Ophthalmology, As Well As The Ability To Perform Various Ophthalmic Procedures.
Excellent Communication And Patient Care Skills: A Successful Candidate Should Possess Strong Communication Skills And Be Able To Provide Compassionate Care To Patients Of All Ages And Backgrounds.
Prior Experience In A Clinical Setting: Experience Working As An Ophthalmic Technician In A Clinical Setting, Preferably In A Hospital Or Medical Center, Is Highly Desirable. This Demonstrates The Ability To Work Effectively In A Fast-Paced And Dynamic Environment.
