Job Description

  1. Greet and welcome patients to the Hollings Cancer Center with a warm and compassionate demeanor.
  2. Provide exceptional care and support to patients throughout their visit, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
  3. Assist in the coordination of patient appointments and maintain accurate scheduling.
  4. Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary supplies.
  5. Take and record vital signs and patient history accurately and efficiently.
  6. Administer medications and treatments as directed by physicians.
  7. Assist physicians and nurses with procedures and exams.
  8. Monitor patients during treatments and report any changes or concerns to medical staff.
  9. Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, medications, and any necessary lifestyle changes.
  10. Maintain patient records and ensure confidentiality of all medical information.
  11. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
  12. Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control measures.
  13. Participate in continuing education and training to stay updated on medical advancements and best practices.
  14. Demonstrate professionalism and empathy towards patients and their families at all times.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or medical director.

Job Qualifications
  • Completion Of An Accredited Medical Assistant Program: A Certified Medical Assistant For An Oncology Clinic At Musc Health Must Have Completed A Formal Education Program From An Accredited Institution. This Ensures That The Candidate Has Received Proper Training In Medical Terminology, Anatomy, And Clinical Procedures.

  • Certification As A Medical Assistant: To Work In A Clinical Setting, A Certified Medical Assistant Must Hold A Valid Certification From A Recognized Organization, Such As The American Association Of Medical Assistants (Aama) Or The National Healthcareer Association (Nha).

  • Experience In An Oncology Setting: Candidates For This Position Should Have Prior Experience Working In An Oncology Clinic Or Hospital. This Experience Will Give Them A Strong Understanding Of The Unique Needs Of Cancer Patients And The Specialized Treatments Used In This Field.

  • Knowledge Of Electronic Health Records (Ehr) Systems: Musc Health Utilizes Electronic Health Records To Document Patient Information And Manage Their Care. A Certified Medical Assistant Should Be Proficient In Using Ehr Systems To Maintain Accurate And Up-To-Date Patient Records.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Working In An Oncology Clinic Requires Compassion, Empathy, And The Ability To Communicate Effectively With Patients Who May Be Facing Difficult Diagnoses And Treatments. A Certified Medical Assistant Should Possess Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Provide Emotional Support And Build Trusting Relationships With Patients.
