  1. Assist surgeons and other healthcare professionals in the operating room by setting up and maintaining sterile fields, handling surgical instruments, and passing necessary items during procedures.
  2. Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, including arranging equipment and supplies, and ensuring all necessary instruments are sterilized and ready for use.
  3. Anticipate the needs of surgeons during procedures, including providing additional instruments and supplies as needed.
  4. Monitor and maintain a sterile environment throughout surgical procedures to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
  5. Collaborate with other members of the surgical team to ensure efficient and effective communication and workflow.
  6. Document all procedures accurately and thoroughly, including maintaining patient records and recording surgical counts.
  7. Maintain knowledge of current surgical techniques, equipment, and procedures in order to continuously improve patient outcomes and provide the highest level of care.
  8. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  9. Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, post-operative care, and any potential risks or complications.
  10. Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to maintain certifications and stay up-to-date on best practices in surgical technology.
  11. Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring their comfort, privacy, and dignity are respected at all times.
  12. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment by demonstrating teamwork, empathy, and professionalism.
  13. Follow all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to confidentiality and patient rights.
  14. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
  15. Represent the organization in a positive manner and uphold our mission and values at all times.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification From An Accredited Surgical Technology Program: Candidates For A Surgical Technologist Position At Mercy Must Have Completed A Formal Education Program In Surgical Technology And Hold A Current Certification From An Accredited Institution.

  • Experience In A Hospital Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Hospital, Preferably In The Operating Room, Is Preferred For This Role. Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of The Procedures And Protocols Involved In Surgical Care.

  • Knowledge Of Surgical Equipment And Instruments: A Thorough Understanding Of Surgical Instruments And Equipment Is Essential For A Surgical Technologist. This Includes Knowledge Of Sterilization Techniques, Proper Handling Of Instruments, And Troubleshooting Equipment Issues.

  • Attention To Detail And Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: The Operating Room Can Be A Fast-Paced And High-Pressure Environment, So It Is Important For Candidates To Have Strong Attention To Detail And The Ability To Stay Calm Under Pressure.

  • Teamwork And Communication Skills: A Surgical Technologist Must Work Closely With Surgeons, Nurses, And Other Healthcare Professionals In The Operating Room. Strong Teamwork And Communication Skills Are Necessary To Ensure The Safety And Efficiency Of Surgical Procedures.
