Job Description

Are you ready to take your surgical skills to the next level? Mercy is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Surgical Tech First Assistant to join our dynamic team and assist in life-saving procedures. As a First Assistant, you will play a vital role in the operating room, working alongside surgeons to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. Our ideal candidate is a certified Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.   1. Assist surgeons in life-saving procedures, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients.
  2. Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical field.
  3. Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons during procedures.
  4. Anticipate the needs of surgeons and have necessary equipment and supplies ready.
  5. Assist with patient positioning and draping.
  6. Monitor and maintain sterile technique throughout the procedure.
  7. Handle specimens according to protocol.
  8. Assist with wound closure and dressing.
  9. Provide support and assistance to surgical team members.
  10. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of procedures.
  11. Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control measures.
  12. Keep abreast of new techniques and technologies in surgical procedures.
  13. Ensure proper care and handling of surgical equipment and instruments.
  14. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  15. Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  16. Demonstrate professionalism and respect for patients, colleagues, and hospital staff.
  17. Comply with all hospital policies and procedures.
  18. Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain certification and enhance skills.
  19. Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies.
  20. Maintain a clean and organized surgical environment.

Job Qualifications

  • Completion Of An Accredited Surgical Technology Program: Candidates For A Surgical Tech First Assistant Job At Mercy Must Have Successfully Completed An Accredited Program In Surgical Technology. This Ensures That The Individual Has Received The Necessary Training And Education In Surgical Procedures And Techniques.

  • Certification As A Surgical First Assistant (Cstfa): Mercy Requires Candidates For This Role To Hold A Current Certification As A Cstfa. This Certification Demonstrates A High Level Of Knowledge And Skills In Assisting During Surgical Procedures.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience As A Surgical Tech First Assistant: Candidates Should Have At Least 2 Years Of Experience Working As A Surgical Tech First Assistant. This Experience Should Include A Variety Of Surgical Procedures And Settings.

  • Knowledge Of Sterile Techniques And Infection Control: As A Surgical Tech First Assistant, It Is Crucial To Have A Strong Understanding Of Sterile Techniques And Infection Control Measures. This Ensures The Safety And Well-Being Of Patients During Surgical Procedures.

  • Excellent Communication And Teamwork Skills: Working As A Surgical Tech First Assistant Requires Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills. This Includes The Ability To Effectively Communicate With Surgeons, Nurses, And Other Members Of The Surgical Team, As Well As The Ability To Work Collaboratively To Ensure A Successful Outcome For The Patient.
