Job Description

Are you a detail-oriented and experienced Sterile Processing professional looking for a leadership role? Mercy is seeking a Sterile Processing Instrument Lead to join our team and oversee the daily operations of our instrument processing department. As the lead, you will ensure that all surgical instruments are properly cleaned, sterilized, and maintained in accordance with industry standards and hospital policies. This role requires strong organizational skills, technical expertise, and the ability to effectively lead and train a team.   1. Oversee the daily operations of the instrument processing department, including managing staff, scheduling, and ensuring efficient workflow.
  2. Ensure that all surgical instruments are properly cleaned, sterilized, and maintained according to industry standards and hospital policies.
  3. Develop and implement procedures and protocols for instrument processing to maintain high quality and efficiency.
  4. Train and mentor staff on proper instrument processing techniques and safety procedures.
  5. Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment needed for instrument processing.
  6. Collaborate with other departments to coordinate instrument needs for surgical procedures.
  7. Keep up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in instrument processing techniques and make recommendations for improvement.
  8. Conduct quality assurance audits to ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards.
  9. Address and resolve any issues or concerns related to instrument processing.
  10. Maintain accurate documentation and records of instrument processing activities.
  11. Participate in department meetings and provide feedback to improve processes and procedures.
  12. Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
  13. Collaborate with purchasing department to order necessary supplies and equipment.
  14. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards related to instrument processing.
  15. Serve as a role model for staff by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and excellent customer service.

Job Qualifications

  • Certification In Sterile Processing: The Ideal Candidate For A Sterile Processing Instrument Lead Position At Mercy Should Hold A Valid Certification In Sterile Processing, Such As The Certified Registered Central Service Technician (Crcst) Or Certified Sterile Processing And Distribution Technician (Cspdt) Credentials.

  • Extensive Knowledge Of Sterilization Techniques: The Role Of A Sterile Processing Instrument Lead Involves Overseeing The Cleaning, Sterilization, And Maintenance Of Surgical Instruments And Equipment. Therefore, Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Various Sterilization Techniques, Including Steam, Ethylene Oxide, And Hydrogen Peroxide Plasma.

  • Leadership And Team Management Skills: As A Lead Position, Candidates Should Possess Strong Leadership And Team Management Skills. This Includes The Ability To Effectively Delegate Tasks, Provide Guidance And Support To Team Members, And Foster A Collaborative And Positive Work Environment.

  • Attention To Detail And Quality Control: The Sterile Processing Instrument Lead Is Responsible For Ensuring That All Surgical Instruments And Equipment Are Thoroughly Cleaned, Sterilized, And Inspected For Quality Control. Candidates Should Have A Keen Eye For Detail And Be Able To Maintain High Standards Of Cleanliness And Safety.

  • Experience In A Healthcare Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Healthcare Setting, Particularly In A Sterile Processing Department, Is Highly Desirable For This Role. Candidates Should Be Familiar With Infection Control Protocols And Have A Strong Understanding Of Surgical Instruments And Equipment Used In Medical Procedures.
