  1. Develop and lead patient safety initiatives: The Senior Patient Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing patient safety initiatives throughout the organization. This includes creating policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, and leading trainings for staff.
  2. Monitor and analyze patient safety data: This role will involve regularly monitoring and analyzing patient safety data to identify areas for improvement. The Senior Patient Safety Specialist will use this data to develop strategies for reducing errors and improving patient outcomes.
  3. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams: The Senior Patient Safety Specialist will work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to promote a culture of patient safety and ensure that all staff are following best practices.
  4. Conduct investigations and root cause analyses: In the event of a patient safety incident, the Senior Patient Safety Specialist will lead investigations and root cause analyses to identify the underlying causes and develop strategies for prevention.
  5. Stay current on industry standards and best practices: This role requires staying up-to-date on industry standards and best practices related to patient safety. The Senior Patient Safety Specialist will attend conferences, participate in trainings, and conduct research to ensure Mercy is following the latest guidelines.
  6. Develop and maintain patient safety policies and procedures: The Senior Patient Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining patient safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe environment for patients.
  7. Train and educate staff: This role will involve training and educating staff on patient safety protocols and procedures. The Senior Patient Safety Specialist will develop training materials, conduct trainings, and monitor staff adherence to protocols.
  8. Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies: The Senior Patient Safety Specialist will serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with patient safety regulations and to provide any necessary documentation or reports.
  9. Lead quality improvement efforts: In addition to patient safety, this role may also involve leading quality improvement efforts throughout the organization. The Senior Patient Safety Specialist will work with teams to identify areas for improvement

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Patient Safety Or Risk Management In A Healthcare Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Federal And State Regulations Related To Patient Safety, Quality Improvement, And Risk Management.

  • Excellent Communication And Analytical Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Collaborate With Interdisciplinary Teams.

  • Certification In Patient Safety, Quality Management, Or Risk Management (Such As Cpps Or Cphrm) Preferred.
