Job Description

Mercy is seeking a highly dedicated and vigilant Public Safety Officer to join our team and help ensure the safety and security of our facility and all those who enter it. As a Public Safety Officer at Mercy, you will have a crucial role in maintaining a safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors. We are looking for candidates who possess strong observation and communication skills, as well as the ability to remain calm and act swiftly in emergency situations.   1. Monitor and patrol the facility to deter and detect potential security threats.
  2. Respond promptly and appropriately to all emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies, fire alarms, and security breaches.
  3. Maintain a visible and approachable presence to provide reassurance and assistance to patients, staff, and visitors.
  4. Enforce facility policies and procedures to ensure safety and security protocols are followed.
  5. Conduct thorough investigations of any security incidents and complete detailed incident reports.
  6. Utilize security systems and equipment, such as cameras, alarms, and radios, to monitor and address any security concerns.
  7. Collaborate with other departments and external agencies to coordinate response and ensure a swift and effective resolution to any security issues.
  8. Act as a liaison between the facility and law enforcement or emergency services when necessary.
  9. Communicate any safety concerns or potential hazards to the appropriate personnel and take necessary actions to mitigate risks.
  10. Stay current on safety and security procedures and participate in training and development programs to enhance knowledge and skills.
  11. Maintain accurate records and logs of daily activities and incidents.
  12. Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and respect when interacting with patients, staff, and visitors.
  13. Adhere to all ethical and legal standards related to security and confidentiality.
  14. Participate in the development and implementation of emergency response plans.
  15. Continuously assess and identify areas for improvement in the facility's safety and security measures.

Job Qualifications
  • Education And Training: A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Ged Is Required, With Preference Given To Candidates Who Have Completed Some Form Of Post-Secondary Education Or Training In Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Or A Related Field.

  • Physical Fitness: Candidates Must Possess And Maintain A High Level Of Physical Fitness, As The Job Requires Physical Exertion And The Ability To Respond Quickly To Emergency Situations. This May Include Passing A Physical Fitness Test And Meeting Certain Strength And Endurance Standards.

  • Communication Skills: Public Safety Officers Must Have Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills, As They Will Be Interacting With A Diverse Population And Working Closely With Other Emergency Response Personnel. The Ability To Remain Calm And Communicate Effectively In High-Stress Situations Is Also Important.

  • Prior Experience: While Prior Experience Is Not Always Required, Candidates With Previous Experience In Law Enforcement, Security, Or Emergency Response Will Be Given Preference. This Experience Can Include Work In A Similar Role, Military Service, Or Volunteer Work.

  • Background Check And Licensing: Candidates Must Undergo A Thorough Background Check, Including Criminal History, Driving Record, And Credit Check. They Must Also Possess A Valid Driver's License And May Be Required To Obtain And Maintain Various Certifications, Such As Cpr And First Aid.
