As a Phlebotomist at Mercy, you will play a crucial role in collecting and processing blood samples to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of our patients.   1. Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood samples from patients, ensuring proper technique and adherence to safety protocols.
  2. Label and process blood samples accurately and in a timely manner, following established procedures and protocols.
  3. Maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies and ensure proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  4. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, providing clear instructions and addressing any concerns.
  5. Maintain accurate and complete records of all phlebotomy procedures and results.
  6. Adhere to all infection control and safety standards, including proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
  7. Assist with specimen processing and transportation to laboratory as needed.
  8. Maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor when interacting with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  9. Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with best practices and advancements in the field of phlebotomy.
  10. Uphold the values of integrity, excellence, and compassion in all aspects of the job, representing Mercy in a positive and professional manner.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification And Training: A Phlebotomist At Mercy Should Possess A Valid Phlebotomy Certification From An Accredited Program, Along With A Completed Training Program.

  • Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology And Be Able To Accurately Label And Identify Blood Samples And Other Medical Materials.

  • Attention To Detail: As A Phlebotomist, Attention To Detail Is Crucial To Ensure Accurate Labeling And Tracking Of Samples, As Well As Following Proper Protocols To Maintain Patient Safety.

  • Interpersonal And Communication Skills: The Ability To Interact With Patients In A Professional And Courteous Manner Is Essential For This Role. Additionally, Strong Communication Skills Are Needed To Collaborate With The Healthcare Team And Accurately Record Patient Information.

  • Technical Skills: A Phlebotomist At Mercy Should Be Proficient In Venipuncture And Other Blood Collection Techniques, As Well As Have Knowledge Of Various Equipment And Technology Used In The Field. Familiarity With Electronic Medical Records And Data Entry Is Also Important.
