Job Description

Welcome to Mercy! We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our dedicated team. As a Phlebotomist at Mercy, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care by collecting blood samples for medical testing.   1. Collect blood samples from patients for medical testing according to established protocols and procedures.
  2. Ensure proper identification and labeling of all collected samples.
  3. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper disposal of used supplies and biohazardous materials.
  4. Follow infection control and safety protocols at all times.
  5. Communicate effectively with patients, providing clear instructions and answering any questions or concerns.
  6. Demonstrate compassion and empathy towards patients, making them feel comfortable and at ease during procedures.
  7. Adhere to all privacy and confidentiality regulations when handling patient information.
  8. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely collection of samples.
  9. Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies, ensuring an adequate stock at all times.
  10. Participate in training and continuing education to stay current with industry developments and best practices.
  11. Provide excellent customer service, addressing any patient concerns or complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  12. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including those related to safety, quality, and patient care.
  13. Maintain accurate and complete records of all phlebotomy procedures.
  14. Follow all quality control and quality assurance measures to ensure accurate test results.
  15. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute ideas to improve processes and procedures.

Job Qualifications
  • Completion Of An Accredited Phlebotomy Training Program: Mercy Requires All Phlebotomists To Have Completed A Formal Training Program From An Accredited Institution.

  • Current Certification By A Recognized Phlebotomy Certifying Agency: Phlebotomists At Mercy Must Hold A Current Certification From A Recognized Agency, Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The National Healthcareer Association (Nha).

  • Experience In A Hospital Or Healthcare Setting: Previous Experience Working As A Phlebotomist In A Hospital Or Healthcare Setting Is Preferred, As Mercy Values Candidates Who Are Familiar With The Fast-Paced And High-Pressure Environment Of A Medical Facility.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Phlebotomist At Mercy, You Will Be Working Closely With Patients, Doctors, And Other Healthcare Professionals. Therefore, Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For Building Rapport And Providing Quality Patient Care.

  • Knowledge Of Medical Terminology And Procedures: A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology And Procedures Is Necessary For Accurately Labeling And Handling Blood Samples, As Well As Communicating Effectively With Medical Staff.
