Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team and assist in providing exceptional pharmaceutical care to our patients.   1. Dispensing Medications: As a pharmacy technician at the David M Sindelar Cancer Center Pharmacy, your primary responsibility will be dispensing medications to cancer patients. This includes accurately counting and measuring medications, labeling prescriptions, and ensuring proper dosages are provided.
  2. Filling and Labeling Prescriptions: You will be responsible for filling and labeling prescriptions accurately and efficiently. This requires attention to detail and the ability to follow specific protocols and procedures.
  3. Maintaining Inventory: It will be your responsibility to maintain an accurate inventory of medications and supplies. This involves monitoring stock levels, ordering medications as needed, and properly storing and disposing of medications.
  4. Collaborating with Pharmacists and Medical Staff: You will work closely with pharmacists and other medical staff to ensure that patients receive the proper medications and dosages. This may involve clarifying prescriptions, providing information on drug interactions, and addressing any concerns or questions.
  5. Providing Exceptional Customer Service: The David M Sindelar Cancer Center Pharmacy prides itself on providing excellent customer service to its patients. As a pharmacy technician, you will be responsible for maintaining a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with patients and their families.
  6. Maintaining Confidentiality: It is essential to maintain patient confidentiality at all times. As a pharmacy technician, you will be required to adhere to HIPAA regulations and ensure that patient information is kept confidential.
  7. Assisting with Administrative Tasks: In addition to your primary responsibilities, you may be asked to assist with administrative tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and processing insurance claims.
  8. Adhering to Safety Protocols: The safety and well-being of our patients are of the utmost importance. You will be responsible for adhering to all safety protocols and procedures, including proper handling and disposal of medications.
  9. Staying Informed on Industry Changes: As a pharmacy technician, it is important to stay informed on any changes or updates in the pharmaceutical industry. This may include attending training

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Pharmacy Technician At Mercy's David M Sindelar Cancer Center Pharmacy Must Have At Least A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Demonstrates A Basic Level Of Education And Knowledge That Is Necessary For The Role.

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification: Candidates For This Position Must Possess A Valid Pharmacy Technician Certification (Cpht) From An Accredited Organization Such As The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (Ptcb) Or The National Healthcareer Association (Nha). This Certification Ensures That The Technician Has Met Certain Competency Standards And Is Qualified To Work In A Pharmacy Setting.

  • Experience In A Hospital Or Retail Pharmacy: Previous Experience Working In A Hospital Or Retail Pharmacy Is Highly Preferred For This Position. This Demonstrates Familiarity With Pharmacy Operations, Medication Dispensing And Inventory Management, And Other Essential Skills Needed For The Role.

  • Knowledge Of Pharmacy Software And Technology: The Ideal Candidate For This Position Should Be Proficient In Using Pharmacy Software And Technology, Such As Electronic Health Record (Ehr) Systems, Inventory Management Software, And Medication Dispensing Machines. This Helps Ensure Accuracy And Efficiency In Day-To-Day Tasks.

  • Strong Communication And Customer Service Skills: As A Pharmacy Technician At Mercy, The Individual Will Be Interacting With Patients, Pharmacists, And Other Healthcare Professionals On A Daily Basis. Therefore, Strong Communication And Customer Service Skills Are Essential For This Role. This Includes The Ability To Explain Medication Instructions To Patients And Respond To Their Questions Or Concerns.
