  1. Provide compassionate and attentive care to patients in the Emergency Department at Mercy.
  2. Assist with patient admissions, including gathering necessary information and completing required documentation.
  3. Monitor patient vital signs and report any changes or concerns to the nursing staff.
  4. Administer prescribed medications and treatments under the direction of a registered nurse.
  5. Assist with patient hygiene and personal care needs, including bathing, toileting, and dressing.
  6. Prepare and maintain patient rooms, ensuring they are clean and well-stocked with necessary supplies.
  7. Collaborate with other healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  8. Respond to patient and family needs and concerns in a timely and respectful manner.
  9. Document patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner.
  10. Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols to maintain a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
  11. Attend and actively participate in team meetings and trainings to stay updated on best practices and procedures.
  12. Continuously strive to improve patient care by seeking feedback and implementing new techniques and approaches.
  13. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  14. Provide emotional support to patients and their families during times of stress or uncertainty.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the nursing staff or supervisor to ensure the smooth operation of the Emergency Department.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Patient Care Technician At Mercy's St. Louis Ed Must Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Demonstrates A Basic Level Of Education And Ability To Comprehend Medical Terminology And Procedures.

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (Cna) Or Medical Assistant (Ma) Certification: A Cna Or Ma Certification Is Typically Required For The Role Of A Patient Care Technician At Mercy. This Ensures That The Candidate Has Received Proper Training And Has The Necessary Skills To Provide Hands-On Patient Care.

  • Basic Life Support (Bls) Certification: As A Healthcare Provider, A Patient Care Technician At Mercy's St. Louis Ed Must Be Certified In Bls. This Certification Ensures That The Candidate Is Trained In Life-Saving Techniques And Can Respond Quickly And Effectively In Emergency Situations.

  • Prior Experience In A Healthcare Setting: While Not Always Required, Prior Experience Working In A Healthcare Setting, Particularly In An Emergency Department, Is Highly Valued For This Role. This Experience Demonstrates A Familiarity With The Fast-Paced And High-Pressure Environment Of An Ed.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: A Patient Care Technician At Mercy Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Patients, Families, And Other Healthcare Professionals. They Must Also Possess Strong Interpersonal Skills To Provide Compassionate Care And Support For Patients And Their Loved Ones During Difficult Times.
