Job Description

Welcome to Mercy! We are seeking a highly motivated Nutrition Assistant to join our team on a PRN (as needed) basis. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting our patients' nutritional needs and overall wellness. As a Nutrition Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our registered dietitians and healthcare team to provide exceptional care to our patients.   1. Assist registered dietitians and healthcare team in providing exceptional care to patients.
  2. Support patients' nutritional needs and overall wellness by providing education and guidance on healthy eating habits.
  3. Work closely with registered dietitians to develop and implement personalized nutrition plans for patients.
  4. Monitor and track patients' food intake and dietary restrictions.
  5. Prepare and serve meals that meet patients' dietary requirements.
  6. Ensure that all meals and snacks are prepared and served according to nutritional guidelines and standards.
  7. Conduct regular inventory of food and supplies and assist with ordering as needed.
  8. Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen and dining area.
  9. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members regarding patient nutrition and dietary needs.
  10. Provide support and assistance to patients with special dietary needs, such as food allergies or intolerances.
  11. Keep accurate and up-to-date records of patient food intake, dietary preferences, and special instructions.
  12. Continuously educate yourself on the latest nutrition research and guidelines to provide the best care for patients.
  13. Adhere to all safety and sanitation protocols to ensure the well-being of patients and staff.
  14. Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to promote a holistic approach to patient care.
  15. Demonstrate compassion and empathy towards patients and their families.
  16. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and follow HIPAA guidelines.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the registered dietitians or healthcare team.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nutrition Or Related Field: A Nutrition Assistant At Mercy Should Possess A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Nutrition, Dietetics, Or A Related Field. This Educational Background Will Provide The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform The Job Duties Effectively.

  • Registered Dietetic Technician (Dtr) Or Certified Dietary Manager (Cdm) Certification: Mercy May Require Candidates For The Nutrition Assistant, Prn Position To Hold A Dtr Or Cdm Certification. These Credentials Demonstrate A High Level Of Professional Competence And Knowledge In The Field Of Nutrition.

  • Prior Experience In A Healthcare Setting: Experience Working In A Hospital Or Other Healthcare Facility Is Highly Desirable For A Nutrition Assistant At Mercy. This Experience Will Provide A Strong Understanding Of The Healthcare Environment And The Role Of Nutrition In Patient Care.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Nutrition Assistant At Mercy, Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential. The Ability To Effectively Communicate With Patients, Families, And Healthcare Professionals Is Crucial In This Role.

  • Knowledge Of Nutrition Software And Electronic Health Records: Mercy May Prefer Candidates Who Have Experience Using Nutrition Software And Electronic Health Records. This Technology Is Often Used To Track Patient Data And Create Nutrition Plans, So Proficiency In These Systems Is Highly Beneficial.
