- Conducting nuclear medicine procedures: Perform a variety of nuclear medicine procedures, including imaging scans and administering radiopharmaceuticals, in accordance with established protocols and safety procedures.
- Operating imaging equipment: Operate and maintain specialized equipment used in nuclear medicine, such as gamma cameras and PET scanners, ensuring accuracy and quality of images.
- Evaluating image quality: Review and evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring that they are of diagnostic value and meet established standards.
- Collaborating with healthcare team: Work closely with physicians, radiologists, and other medical professionals to provide accurate and timely results for patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Maintaining patient safety: Follow all safety protocols and radiation protection measures to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and self during nuclear medicine procedures.
- Educating patients: Communicate with patients to explain procedures and address any concerns or questions they may have, ensuring their comfort and understanding throughout the process.
- Maintaining patient records: Accurately document and maintain patient records, including medical histories, test results, and other pertinent information.
- Troubleshooting equipment issues: Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and report any issues to appropriate personnel for timely resolution.

Bachelor's Degree In Nuclear Medicine Technology: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Nuclear Medicine Technology From An Accredited Program Is Required For This Role. This Ensures That The Technician Has Received Comprehensive Training In The Field And Is Equipped With The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform The Job Effectively.
Certification From Arrt Or Nmtcb: Mercy Requires Its Nuclear Medicine Technicians To Have Current Certification From Either The American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists (Arrt) Or The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (Nmtcb). This Certification Demonstrates A High Level Of Competency And Adherence To Professional Standards.
Experience In Nuclear Medicine Procedures: Candidates Should Have A Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience Working In A Nuclear Medicine Department Or Related Field. This Experience Should Include Performing Various Nuclear Medicine Procedures, Utilizing Equipment And Software, And Working With Patients Of All Ages.
Knowledge Of Radiation Safety Protocols: As Nuclear Medicine Involves The Use Of Radioactive Materials, Technicians Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Radiation Safety Protocols To Ensure The Safety Of Patients, Themselves, And Others Around Them. This Includes Knowledge Of Proper Handling, Storage, And Disposal Of Radioactive Materials.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Nuclear Medicine Technician At Mercy, The Ability To Effectively Communicate With Patients, Physicians, And Other Healthcare Professionals Is Crucial. Technicians Must Also Possess Strong Interpersonal Skills To Establish Rapport With Patients And Make Them Feel Comfortable During Procedures.
