Job Description

Are you a skilled Histotechnologist looking for a flexible, "as needed" role? Look no further! Mercy is seeking a PRN Histotechnologist to join our team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to utilize your expertise in preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination, helping to diagnose and treat patients.   1. Perform histological procedures on tissue samples, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting.
  2. Ensure accuracy and precision in all aspects of sample preparation and handling to produce high-quality slides for microscopic examination.
  3. Adhere to established protocols and procedures to maintain quality control and ensure accurate and timely results.
  4. Utilize advanced laboratory equipment and techniques to perform specialized staining and immunohistochemistry procedures.
  5. Document and maintain accurate records of all procedures, results, and quality control measures.
  6. Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely diagnostic results.
  7. Monitor and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment to ensure proper functionality and availability for testing.
  8. Comply with all safety and infection control protocols to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.
  9. Participate in continuous education and training to stay updated on new techniques and procedures in the field of histotechnology.
  10. Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues and patients.
  11. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  12. Take initiative to identify and resolve technical issues and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
  13. Adhere to all hospital and laboratory policies and procedures.
  14. Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate the varying needs of the laboratory and patients.
  15. Continuously strive to improve processes and procedures to enhance the quality of patient care.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Histotechnology Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Histotechnology Or A Related Field Is Often Required For A Histotechnologist Position. This Education Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform The Duties Of A Histotechnologist.

  • Certified Histotechnologist (Htl) Or Histotechnician (Ht): Many Employers, Including Mercy, Require Certification From The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) As Either A Histotechnologist (Htl) Or Histotechnician (Ht). This Certification Ensures That The Candidate Has Met The Necessary Education And Experience Requirements And Has Passed A Comprehensive Exam.

  • Experience In A Clinical Laboratory Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Clinical Laboratory, Particularly In The Field Of Histotechnology, Is Often Preferred For A Histotechnologist Position. This Experience Demonstrates Familiarity With Laboratory Procedures And Equipment, As Well As Proficiency In Handling And Analyzing Biological Specimens.

  • Strong Attention To Detail And Accuracy: As A Histotechnologist, Precision And Accuracy Are Crucial In Handling And Processing Tissue Samples. Candidates Should Possess A Strong Attention To Detail And The Ability To Follow Protocols And Procedures Carefully To Ensure Accurate Results.

  • Flexibility And Ability To Work Prn: The Role Of A Histotechnologist At Mercy May Require Working On An As-Needed Basis (Prn), Which May Include Weekends And Holidays. Candidates Should Be Able To Demonstrate Flexibility And A Willingness To Work A Flexible Schedule To Meet The Needs Of The Laboratory And The Patients It Serves.
