
Director-Government Relations
Mercy is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Director of Government Relations. - Develop and implement government relations strategies at the local, state, and federal levels in alignment with Mercy's mission and values.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and advocacy groups.
- Monitor legislative activity and proactively identify opportunities and threats that may impact Mercy's operations.
- Advocate for policies and legislation that support Mercy's goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure alignment and coordination of government relations efforts.
- Stay informed and up-to-date on healthcare industry trends, regulations, and legislation.
- Prepare and deliver written and oral communications, including testimony, briefings, and presentations, to advocate for Mercy's positions.
- Collaborate with the communications team to develop messaging and materials to support government relations efforts.
- Manage a budget for government relations activities and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Represent Mercy at meetings, hearings, and other events related to government relations.
- Provide guidance and support to Mercy leadership on government relations issues.
- Stay informed and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to government relations activities.
- Develop and maintain a network of contacts within the government and healthcare industry.
- Collaborate with other healthcare organizations and advocacy groups to amplify the impact of government relations efforts.
- Continuously evaluate and improve government relations strategies and tactics to achieve desired outcomes.
- Mentor and develop team members to support their professional growth and success in government relations.
- Serve as a spokesperson for Mercy on government relations issues.
- Prepare reports and updates on government relations activities for Mercy leadership and stakeholders.
- Participate in relevant professional organizations and events to stay current with best practices and industry trends.
- Uphold and promote Mercy's mission, values, and culture in all government relations activities.
Extensive Knowledge Of Government Policies And Regulations: A Director Of Government Relations At Mercy Should Possess A Deep Understanding Of Government Policies And Regulations Related To The Healthcare Industry. This Includes Knowledge Of Medicare And Medicaid Policies, As Well As State And Federal Laws That Impact Healthcare Organizations.
Experience In Lobbying And Advocacy: The Ideal Candidate For This Position Should Have A Proven Track Record In Lobbying And Advocacy Efforts At The Local, State, And Federal Levels. They Should Be Able To Effectively Communicate Mercy's Objectives And Influence Government Decision-Making Processes.
Strong Communication And Relationship-Building Skills: As The Primary Liaison Between Mercy And Government Officials, The Director Of Government Relations Must Have Excellent Communication Skills And The Ability To Build And Maintain Relationships With Key Stakeholders. This Includes Government Officials, Community Leaders, And Other Healthcare Organizations.
Strategic Thinking And Problem-Solving Abilities: The Healthcare Industry Is Constantly Evolving, And The Director Of Government Relations Must Be Able To Think Strategically And Proactively To Address Potential Challenges And Opportunities. They Should Also Have Strong Problem-Solving Skills To Navigate Complex Government Policies And Regulations.
Bachelor's Or Advanced Degree In Public Policy, Political Science, Or A Related Field: While Not Always Required, Most Employers Prefer Candidates For This Role To Have A Bachelor's Or Advanced Degree In A Relevant Field. This Demonstrates A Strong Foundation In Government And Policy And Can Provide Valuable Knowledge And Skills For The Job.
