- Develop and implement comprehensive injury prevention programs for athletes of all levels.
- Conduct thorough evaluations of athletic injuries and create individualized treatment plans.
- Provide immediate care and treatment for on-field injuries.
- Collaborate with physicians, coaches, and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper care for athletes.
- Communicate with athletes and their families regarding injury management, treatment plans, and return to play protocols.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of treatments and progress.
- Continuously educate athletes on injury prevention techniques and proper body mechanics.
- Monitor and track athlete progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Stay current on new developments and techniques in sports medicine.
- Serve as a liaison between athletes, coaches, and medical professionals to ensure a successful recovery and safe return to play.
- Assist in the coordination and coverage of athletic events and competitions.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards regarding patient confidentiality and informed consent.
- Foster a positive and supportive environment for athletes and promote a team approach to care.
- Maintain and organize supplies and equipment necessary for athletic training services.
- Participate in departmental meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Adhere to all safety and infection control policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with insurance companies and other healthcare providers to ensure proper coverage and billing for services.
- Provide guidance and support to athletic training students and interns.
- Adhere to all relevant state and federal laws and regulations.
- Continuously strive for excellence in providing top-notch care and support to athletes.
Bachelor's Degree In Athletic Training Or Related Field: A Strong Educational Foundation In Athletic Training And Sports Medicine Is Essential For This Role. A Bachelor's Degree In Athletic Training Or A Related Field Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Effectively Work With Athletes.
Certification From The National Athletic Trainers' Association (Nata): The Nata Certification Is The Gold Standard For Athletic Trainers And Demonstrates A Deep Understanding Of Sports Medicine, Injury Prevention, And Rehabilitation Techniques.
State Licensure: Many States Require Athletic Trainers To Be Licensed In Order To Practice. Candidates Should Have A Current, Valid Athletic Training License In The State Where Mercy Is Located.
Experience Working With Athletes: Previous Experience Working With Athletes, Either In A Clinical Or Team Setting, Is Highly Desirable. This Could Include Internships, Volunteer Work, Or Previous Employment As An Athletic Trainer.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Athletic Trainers Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Athletes, Coaches, And Other Healthcare Professionals. They Must Also Be Able To Build Rapport And Trust With Their Clients In Order To Provide The Best Care Possible. Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Crucial For Success In This Role.
