
Research Animal Specialist
At Massachusetts General Hospital, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Research Animal Specialist to join our team. This role will provide essential services in the daily care and health management of research animals in compliance with the American Association for the Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care and husbandry, a commitment to integrity and safety, and a passion for animal welfare. Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care and health management for research animals in accordance with AAALAC standards.
- Develop and implement husbandry protocols and procedures for research animals.
- Maintain records of animal health and welfare.
- Consult with research staff and investigators regarding animal care, husbandry, and handling.
- Monitor animal environment conditions to ensure optimal care and comfort of research animals.
- Administer medication and vaccinations as needed.
- Assist with animal health surveillance and participate in health checks.
- Provide instruction in animal handling and restraint techniques to research staff.
- Monitor and report any changes in animal health and behavior.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding animal care.
- Participate in training and continuing education activities related to animal care and husbandry.
