  1. Provide compassionate and empathetic care to patients and their families facing serious illness.
  2. Collaborate with the Palliative Care team to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients.
  3. Assess patients' physical, emotional, and spiritual needs to provide holistic care.
  4. Educate patients and their families on palliative care options and resources available.
  5. Advocate for patients' needs and preferences, ensuring they are met throughout their treatment.
  6. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
  7. Conduct physical and psychosocial assessments to identify patient needs and develop appropriate interventions.
  8. Administer medications, monitor patients' vital signs, and provide treatments as needed.
  9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient care.
  10. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects related to palliative care.
  11. Stay current with developments and advancements in palliative care through continued education and training.
  12. Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and their families during difficult times.
  13. Collaborate with community resources and organizations to ensure patients have access to necessary support services.
  14. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.
  15. Uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing: The First And Most Important Qualification For A Palliative Care - Access Nurse At Massachusetts General Hospital Is A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing. This Degree Provides A Strong Foundation In Nursing Principles, Patient Care, And Communication Skills.

  • Current Rn License: All Nurses At Massachusetts General Hospital Are Required To Have A Current And Valid Rn License In The State Of Massachusetts. This Ensures That The Nurse Is Qualified To Provide Care And Adhere To State Regulations.

  • Certification In Palliative Care: Candidates For This Role Should Also Hold A Certification In Palliative Care, Such As The Advanced Certified Hospice And Palliative Nurse (Achpn) Or The Certified Hospice And Palliative Nurse (Chpn). This Certification Demonstrates A Specialized Knowledge And Skillset In Providing Holistic Care To Patients With Serious Or Terminal Illnesses.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Hospice Or Palliative Care: Massachusetts General Hospital Requires Candidates To Have A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Hospice Or Palliative Care. This Experience Helps The Nurse To Understand The Unique Needs Of Patients And Families Facing End-Of-Life Care And To Provide Compassionate And Comprehensive Care.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Palliative Care - Access Nurses At Massachusetts General Hospital Must Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Collaborate With Interdisciplinary Teams, Families, And Patients.
