
Human Milk Assistant

In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing vital nutrition to our tiniest patients by assisting with the management and distribution of human milk donations. - Assist with the collection, processing, and storage of human milk donations from both in-house and external donors.
- Ensure all human milk donations are properly labeled, stored, and tracked according to hospital and industry standards.
- Follow strict infection control protocols to maintain a safe and sterile environment for the handling of human milk donations.
- Work closely with the lactation team and healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate distribution of human milk to patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
- Educate and support mothers on the importance and process of human milk donation.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all human milk donations and distributions.
- Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to ensure the proper nutrition and care of NICU patients.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of human milk donations and communicate any shortages or issues to the appropriate parties.
- Participate in ongoing training and education to stay updated on best practices for human milk donation and handling.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations in all aspects of the job.
- Provide compassionate and supportive care to patients and their families during the human milk donation process.
- Contribute to a positive and professional work environment through effective communication and teamwork.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations, related to human milk donation and handling.
- Continuously assess and improve processes and procedures related to human milk donation to ensure the highest quality of care for patients.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Knowledge Of Breastfeeding Practices: A Human Milk Assistant Should Possess A Thorough Understanding Of Breastfeeding Techniques, Milk Expression, And Handling And Storage Guidelines.
Familiarity With Hospital Protocols: The Candidate Should Have A Working Knowledge Of Hospital Protocols Related To Human Milk Handling And Distribution, Including Infection Control Procedures.
Experience In Lactation Support: Previous Experience In Providing Lactation Support, Either Through Personal Experience Or Professional Training, Is Preferred For This Role.
Strong Interpersonal Skills: As A Human Milk Assistant, The Ability To Communicate Effectively With Mothers, Hospital Staff, And Other Stakeholders Is Crucial In Ensuring The Safe And Efficient Handling Of Human Milk.
Attention To Detail: The Ideal Candidate Should Demonstrate Strong Attention To Detail And The Ability To Follow Protocols Accurately, As Human Milk Is A Precious Resource That Requires Careful Handling And Monitoring.
