
Surgical Technologist - General Surgery

- Prepare operating rooms and surgical equipment for procedures, ensuring that everything is properly sterilized and functioning.
- Anticipate the needs of surgeons during procedures and provide them with the necessary instruments and supplies.
- Maintain a safe and sterile environment in the operating room, following all infection control protocols and procedures.
- Collaborate with the surgical team, including surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists, to ensure smooth and efficient workflow during procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning and draping, as well as the application of surgical dressings and casts.
- Monitor and document patient vital signs, blood loss, and other important data during procedures.
- Handle specimens and samples with care, ensuring proper labeling and storage.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and report any malfunctions or needed repairs.
- Maintain inventory of surgical supplies and equipment, restocking as needed.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations, regarding patient care and safety.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients before and after procedures.
- Continuously update knowledge and skills through attending training and educational opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Comply with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Certification: Candidates For A Surgical Technologist - General Surgery Position At Mainehealth Must Be Certified By The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa).
Education: A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Is Required For This Position. Additionally, Candidates Must Have Completed An Accredited Surgical Technology Program, Either Through A College Or Technical School.
Experience: Mainehealth Prefers Candidates With At Least 1-2 Years Of Experience Working As A Surgical Technologist, Preferably In A General Surgery Setting. Experience In Other Surgical Specialties, Such As Orthopedics Or Neurosurgery, May Also Be Considered.
Technical Skills: Candidates Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Surgical Procedures And Possess The Technical Skills Necessary To Assist Surgeons During Procedures. This Includes Knowledge Of Surgical Instruments And Equipment, As Well As Aseptic Techniques.
Teamwork And Communication: As A Surgical Technologist At Mainehealth, Strong Teamwork And Communication Skills Are Essential. Candidates Should Be Able To Work Well With A Multidisciplinary Team, Take Direction From Surgeons And Other Healthcare Professionals, And Communicate Effectively In A Fast-Paced Environment.
