- Provide specialized care to patients with infectious diseases.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Assess and monitor patients' physical and mental health and report any changes to the appropriate healthcare providers.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Educate patients and their families on disease management, prevention, and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records.
- Adhere to infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of medical supplies and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay updated on advancements in infectious disease treatments.
- Follow all state and federal regulations and guidelines related to infectious disease nursing.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold patient privacy at all times.
- Collaborate with community resources to ensure continuity of care for patients.

Current Rn Licensure In The State Of Maine: The First And Most Important Qualification For A Registered Nurse In Infectious Disease At Mainehealth Is A Valid And Up-To-Date Rn License In The State Of Maine. This Ensures That The Nurse Has Completed The Necessary Education And Training To Provide High-Quality Patient Care.
Bachelor Of Science In Nursing (Bsn) Degree: Although Not Always Required, A Bsn Degree Is Highly Preferred For This Role As It Provides A More Comprehensive Education In Nursing And Prepares Nurses For Advanced Practice Roles.
Certification In Infectious Disease Nursing (Cic): A Cic Certification Demonstrates Specialized Knowledge And Skills In The Prevention, Control, And Treatment Of Infectious Diseases. It Is Highly Valued By Employers And Can Increase Job Opportunities And Earning Potential.
Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Clinical Experience In Infectious Disease: Mainehealth Requires Candidates For This Position To Have At Least 2-3 Years Of Experience Working In A Clinical Setting, Preferably In Infectious Disease. This Ensures That The Nurse Has A Strong Foundation In Patient Care And Is Familiar With The Specific Challenges Of This Specialty.
Strong Communication And Collaboration Skills: As An Rn In Infectious Disease, The Ability To Communicate Effectively With Patients, Families, And Other Healthcare Professionals Is Crucial. Nurses Must Also Be Able To Work Collaboratively With Interdisciplinary Teams To Develop And Implement Treatment Plans For Patients With Infectious Diseases.
