
Operating Room Assistant

- Assist in preparing operating rooms for surgeries by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are properly sterilized and available.
- Maintain a clean and organized operating room environment and assist with setting up and breaking down equipment and supplies.
- Anticipate and fulfill surgeon and surgical team's needs during procedures.
- Assist in positioning and transferring patients to and from the operating room.
- Monitor and track inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure availability for surgeries.
- Communicate effectively with surgical team to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
- Provide support to the surgical team, including passing instruments, holding retractors, and other tasks as needed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a safe and sterile environment at all times.
- Keep accurate records of procedures and patient information.
- Participate in training and continuing education opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices and new techniques.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
- Demonstrate a compassionate and empathetic approach towards patients and their families.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Assist with transporting patients to and from the operating room as needed.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the operating room manager or supervising surgeon.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: Candidates For The Operating Room Assistant Job At Mainehealth Must Possess A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Education To Demonstrate Basic Academic Skills And Knowledge.
Certification In Surgical Technology: Mainehealth Prefers Candidates Who Have Completed A Certified Surgical Technology Program And Hold A Current Certification From The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa).
Knowledge Of Surgical Procedures And Equipment: Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Surgical Procedures And Equipment Used In The Operating Room, Including Sterilization Techniques And Infection Control Protocols.
Physical Endurance: This Job Requires Physical Stamina As Operating Room Assistants May Be On Their Feet For Extended Periods Of Time, Assist With Lifting And Moving Patients, And Handle Surgical Equipment.
Attention To Detail And Ability To Multitask: Operating Room Assistants Must Be Able To Pay Close Attention To Details, Follow Precise Instructions, And Multitask In A Fast-Paced Environment To Ensure Surgical Procedures Run Smoothly And Efficiently.
