
Certified Nurse Midwife - Inpatient

- Provide compassionate and skilled care to pregnant women during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods.
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' health status and develop individualized care plans.
- Monitor and document maternal and fetal well-being during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.
- Administer medications, perform procedures, and provide education to patients and their families.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and experiences.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and progress.
- Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
- Provide emotional and psychological support to patients during labor and postpartum.
- Promote and support breastfeeding and provide lactation support to new mothers.
- Keep abreast of current research and best practices in women's health and midwifery.
- Mentor and educate student midwives and other healthcare professionals.
- Stay up-to-date on all CNM licensure and certification requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect patients' rights and privacy.
- Attend and actively participate in departmental and hospital meetings and trainings.
- Advocate for patients' needs and rights.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Demonstrate a commitment to providing culturally competent care to diverse populations.
- Adhere to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Continuously strive to improve clinical skills and knowledge through ongoing education and professional development.
Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Nursing From An Accredited Program: A Certified Nurse Midwife (Cnm) Must Have Completed A Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Nursing From An Accredited Program. This Ensures That They Have A Strong Foundation In Nursing Principles And Can Provide High-Quality Care To Patients.
Current And Valid Rn And Aprn Licensure: In Order To Practice As A Cnm In The State Of Maine, Candidates Must Hold A Current And Valid Registered Nurse (Rn) License And An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Aprn) License. This Ensures That They Have Met The State's Requirements For Practicing As A Cnm.
Certification From The American Midwifery Certification Board (Amcb): Cnms Must Have A Current Certification From The Amcb, Which Is The National Certification Body For Midwives. This Certification Demonstrates That They Have Met The Educational And Clinical Requirements To Practice As A Cnm.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience As A Cnm: Most Employers Prefer Candidates With At Least 2 Years Of Experience As A Cnm. This Experience Allows Cnms To Develop Their Skills And Knowledge, And Be Better Equipped To Handle The Challenges Of An Inpatient Setting.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: In An Inpatient Setting, Cnms Must Work Closely With Other Healthcare Professionals, Such As Physicians, Nurses, And Support Staff. Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For Effective Teamwork And Providing Quality Care To Patients.
