Advanced Degree In Nuclear Engineering Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Master's Degree In Nuclear Engineering Or A Closely Related Field Is Required For A Nuclear Weapons Scientist Position At Los Alamos National Laboratory. A Ph.d. Is Preferred.
Knowledge Of Nuclear Physics And Weapon Design: Candidates Must Have A Deep Understanding Of Nuclear Physics, Including Nuclear Reactions, Fission, And Fusion. They Should Also Have Experience In Weapon Design, Including Knowledge Of Materials, Components, And Testing Procedures.
Experience In Radiation Detection And Analysis: A Strong Background In Radiation Detection And Analysis Is Essential For A Nuclear Weapons Scientist. This Includes Experience With Radiation Detection Equipment And Techniques, As Well As Data Analysis And Interpretation.
Security Clearance: Due To The Sensitive Nature Of The Work At Los Alamos National Laboratory, All Candidates Must Be Able To Obtain And Maintain A Department Of Energy Q-Level Security Clearance. This Requires A Thorough Background Investigation And Is Only Granted To U.s. Citizens.
