Job Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree In Nuclear Engineering Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Master's Degree In Nuclear Engineering Or A Closely Related Field Is Required For A Nuclear Weapons Scientist Position At Los Alamos National Laboratory. A Ph.d. Is Preferred.

  • Knowledge Of Nuclear Physics And Weapon Design: Candidates Must Have A Deep Understanding Of Nuclear Physics, Including Nuclear Reactions, Fission, And Fusion. They Should Also Have Experience In Weapon Design, Including Knowledge Of Materials, Components, And Testing Procedures.

  • Experience In Radiation Detection And Analysis: A Strong Background In Radiation Detection And Analysis Is Essential For A Nuclear Weapons Scientist. This Includes Experience With Radiation Detection Equipment And Techniques, As Well As Data Analysis And Interpretation.

  • Security Clearance: Due To The Sensitive Nature Of The Work At Los Alamos National Laboratory, All Candidates Must Be Able To Obtain And Maintain A Department Of Energy Q-Level Security Clearance. This Requires A Thorough Background Investigation And Is Only Granted To U.s. Citizens.

  • Teamwork And Communication Skills: Nuclear Weapons Scientists At Los Alamos National Laboratory Must Be Able To Work Effectively As Part Of A Team And Communicate Complex Information To Colleagues And Stakeholders. Strong Interpersonal And Communication Skills Are Essential For Success In This Role.
