  1. Develop and implement fire protection system designs for Los Alamos National Laboratory's nuclear facilities.
  2. Conduct thorough evaluations of existing fire protection systems and make recommendations for improvements.
  3. Collaborate with a team of engineers and safety professionals to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
  4. Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to prevent and respond to potential fire hazards.
  5. Perform regular inspections and maintenance of fire protection systems to ensure proper functioning.
  6. Analyze and interpret data to identify trends and make data-driven decisions for fire protection system upgrades and modifications.
  7. Provide technical support and expertise to other departments and teams within the laboratory.
  8. Stay current with industry advancements and best practices in fire protection systems and implement them into laboratory policies and procedures.
  9. Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure the effective procurement and installation of fire protection systems.
  10. Train and educate laboratory staff on fire safety protocols, evacuation procedures, and proper use of fire protection equipment.
  11. Prepare and present reports and recommendations to management and regulatory agencies.
  12. Participate in emergency response drills and exercises to test and improve the effectiveness of fire protection systems.
  13. Foster a culture of safety and promote a proactive approach to fire protection within the laboratory.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Fire Protection Engineering, Preferably In A Nuclear Facilities Environment.

  • Knowledge Of Relevant Codes And Standards Such As Nfpa, Doe Orders, And Nrc Regulations.

  • Experience With Fire Protection System Design, Analysis, And Testing For Complex Nuclear Facilities.

  • Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills, As Well As The Ability To Work Independently And Manage Multiple Projects Simultaneously.
