Job Description

Are you a detail-oriented and tech-savvy professional with a passion for preserving and organizing digital records? Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a Digital Archivist to join our team of library professionals. In this role, you will play a critical role in managing and providing access to our extensive collection of digital materials. We are looking for a highly organized and knowledgeable individual with a strong understanding of digital preservation and archival principles. If you are a self-motivated, curious, and collaborative individual with a strong background in library science, we want to hear from you!

  1. Manage and maintain the organization's extensive collection of digital materials.
  2. Utilize strong understanding of digital preservation and archival principles to ensure the long-term accessibility and usability of digital records.
  3. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the acquisition, appraisal, description, and preservation of digital materials.
  4. Collaborate with other library professionals to ensure accurate and efficient organization and management of digital records.
  5. Conduct regular audits and assessments of the digital collection to identify potential preservation issues and implement solutions.
  6. Stay up-to-date on advancements in digital preservation and archival best practices in order to continuously improve the organization's processes.
  7. Provide guidance and training to staff on the proper handling and preservation of digital materials.
  8. Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure their needs and requirements are met in regards to digital records.
  9. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all digital materials and their preservation activities.
  10. Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations related to the management and preservation of digital records.
  11. Act as a subject matter expert and resource for the organization on digital preservation and archival practices.
  12. Continuously evaluate and improve the organization's digital preservation strategies and workflows.
  13. Maintain confidentiality and security of all digital materials.
  14. Collaborate with IT professionals to ensure the functionality and accessibility of digital materials.
  15. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current in the field of digital archiving and preservation.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Library And Information Science, Archival Studies, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Experience In Digital Preservation And Curation, Preferably In A Research Or Scientific Environment.

  • Knowledge Of Archival Standards And Best Practices, Including Metadata Standards (E.g. Dublin Core, Premis) And Digital Preservation Systems (E.g. Archivematica, Duracloud).

  • Familiarity With A Variety Of Digital File Formats And The Ability To Assess And Manage Their Preservation Needs.

  • Excellent Communication And Collaboration Skills, With The Ability To Work With Diverse Teams And Stakeholders To Develop And Implement Digital Preservation Strategies.
