
Child Life Specialist

- Develop and implement age-appropriate activities and programs for pediatric patients to promote coping, self-expression, and normalcy during their hospital stay.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to assess the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and provide emotional support and interventions as needed.
- Educate and prepare children and their families for medical procedures and treatments in a developmentally appropriate manner.
- Advocate for the unique needs of pediatric patients and their families within the hospital setting.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of patient interactions and progress.
- Communicate regularly with families to provide updates on their child's progress and offer support and resources.
- Attend and actively participate in team meetings and rounds to provide input and collaborate on patient care plans.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and medical staff to ensure a positive and supportive experience for pediatric patients.
- Continuously evaluate and improve child life programs and services to meet the changing needs of patients and families.
- Stay current on the latest research and best practices in child life and utilize this knowledge to enhance patient care.
- Collaborate with community organizations and volunteers to provide additional resources and support for pediatric patients and their families.
Bachelor's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Child Life Or A Related Field Is Typically Required To Become A Child Life Specialist At Lifebridge Health. This Education Will Provide The Necessary Foundation In Child Development, Psychology, And Medical Terminology To Effectively Work With Pediatric Patients.
Certification In Child Life: Many Hospitals, Including Lifebridge Health, Require Child Life Specialists To Be Certified Through The Child Life Council. This Certification Demonstrates A High Level Of Knowledge And Competency In The Field Of Child Life And Ensures That The Specialist Is Up-To-Date On Best Practices And Standards.
Experience Working With Children: Prior Experience Working With Children In A Healthcare Or Educational Setting Is Highly Desirable For A Child Life Specialist At Lifebridge Health. This Could Include Volunteer Work, Internships, Or Employment In A Hospital, School, Or Daycare.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Child Life Specialists Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Children Of All Ages, As Well As Their Families And Healthcare Team Members. They Must Also Be Able To Build Rapport And Establish Trust With Children In Order To Provide Effective Support During Medical Procedures.
Knowledge Of Child Development And Coping Techniques: Child Life Specialists At Lifebridge Health Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Child Development, Including How Children Cope With Illness And Hospitalization. They Should Also Be Familiar With A Variety Of Coping Techniques And Interventions That Can Be Used To Support Children During Their Medical Experiences.
