- Serve as a first assistant in surgical procedures, working closely with surgeons to provide high-quality patient care.
- Maintain a high level of technical proficiency and knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and equipment.
- Prepare operating room and surgical instruments, ensuring they are sterile and ready for use.
- Assist with patient positioning and draping, as well as the passing of surgical instruments during procedures.
- Monitor patient vital signs and communicate any changes or concerns to the surgical team.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeons during procedures and provide support and assistance as needed.
- Collaborate with other members of the surgical team, including nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgical assistants.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a safe and clean operating environment.
- Keep accurate records of procedures, including supplies used and patient information.
- Continuously update knowledge and skills through education and training opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.

Completion Of An Accredited Surgical Technologist First Assistant Program: Candidates Must Have Completed A Program Specifically Designed For Surgical Technologist First Assistants, Such As The One Offered By The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa).
Certified Surgical First Assistant (Csfa) Credential: The Csfa Credential Is Awarded By The Nbstsa And Demonstrates That The Candidate Has Met The Education And Experience Requirements To Work As A Surgical Technologist First Assistant.
Previous Experience As A Surgical Technologist: Candidates Should Have At Least 2-3 Years Of Experience Working As A Surgical Technologist In An Operating Room Setting. This Experience Will Provide A Strong Foundation For The Additional Responsibilities Of A First Assistant.
