- Prepare and maintain the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available and in working order.
- Assist surgeons and other medical professionals during surgical procedures by passing instruments and supplies, anticipating their needs and responding quickly and accurately.
- Set up and maintain sterile fields, including draping patients and creating and maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room.
- Anticipate potential complications during surgical procedures and take appropriate action to ensure patient safety and the success of the surgery.
- Utilize a strong understanding of surgical instruments and procedures to anticipate and fulfill the needs of surgeons and other medical professionals during surgical procedures.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons and other medical professionals to ensure a smooth and efficient surgical procedure.
- Handle and care for surgical instruments and equipment in a safe and appropriate manner, ensuring they are properly cleaned and sterilized after each use.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of surgical procedures, including inventory of supplies used, patient information, and any complications or issues that may arise.
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.
- Continuously monitor and assess the needs of the operating room during surgical procedures, making adjustments and providing assistance as needed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control measures to maintain a safe and sterile environment in the operating room.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with advances in surgical techniques and technology.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families during surgical procedures, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times, respecting the privacy and dignity of patients.
- Serve as a positive and collaborative member of the surgical team, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.
Certification: A Surgical Technologist Must Be Certified Through An Accredited Program, Such As The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa).
Experience: A Minimum Of One Year Of Experience As A Surgical Technologist Is Preferred, Although New Graduates May Be Considered.
Knowledge Of Surgical Procedures: A Thorough Understanding Of Various Surgical Procedures, Instruments, And Equipment Is Necessary For A Surgical Technologist To Excel In Their Role.
Attention To Detail: Surgical Procedures Require A High Level Of Precision And Attention To Detail. A Surgical Technologist Must Be Able To Anticipate The Needs Of The Surgical Team And Ensure That All Instruments And Supplies Are Properly Sterilized And Prepared.
