- Develop and implement radiation safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safe use of radiation in the healthcare facility.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and identify any potential safety hazards.
- Train and educate staff on proper radiation safety protocols and procedures, including the safe handling and disposal of radioactive materials.
- Monitor and maintain records of radiation exposure levels for patients and staff, and report any abnormalities or concerns to the appropriate parties.
- Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and efficient use of radiation in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Stay up-to-date on all current regulations and industry standards related to radiation safety and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance.
- Investigate and report any incidents or accidents involving radiation exposure, and assist in implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Participate in emergency preparedness training and drills to ensure readiness in the event of a radiation-related emergency.
- Communicate with external agencies and organizations, such as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, to ensure compliance with all radiation safety regulations and guidelines.
- Maintain and calibrate radiation detection equipment and monitor its functionality to ensure accurate readings and safe usage.
- Participate in the development and review of policies and procedures related to radiation safety within the healthcare facility.
- Provide support and guidance to other staff members on radiation safety matters and serve as a resource for any questions or concerns.
- Continuously assess and improve radiation safety practices and procedures to ensure the highest level of safety for patients and staff.
Education And Training: A Radiation Safety Technician At Kettering Health Network Should Possess A Minimum Of An Associate's Degree In Radiologic Technology, Health Physics, Or A Related Field. Additionally, They Should Have Completed Specialized Training In Radiation Safety And Safety Regulations.
Certification And Licensure: Candidates Should Hold A Valid State License As A Radiologic Technologist And Be Certified By The American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists (Arrt) In Radiography Or Nuclear Medicine. Additional Certification In Radiation Safety Or Health Physics Is Preferred.
Knowledge Of Radiation Safety Regulations: A Thorough Understanding Of Federal, State, And Local Regulations Related To Radiation Safety Is Essential For This Role. The Technician Should Be Familiar With The Use Of Radiation Monitoring Equipment, Proper Handling And Disposal Of Radioactive Materials, And Emergency Procedures In Case Of Radiation Exposure.
Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Part Of The Radiology Administration Team, The Radiation Safety Technician Will Interact With A Variety Of Individuals, Including Physicians, Technologists, And Patients. Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Necessary To Effectively Convey Safety Procedures And Promote A Culture Of Radiation Safety Within The Organization.
