Job Description

At Johns Hopkins University, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistant to join our team. This role will support our faculty in providing exceptional education to our students. As a Teaching Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our renowned professors and contribute to the academic success of our students.   1. Assist faculty in preparing and delivering lectures, assignments and assessments.
  2. Provide one-on-one or group tutoring to students as needed.
  3. Collaborate with faculty to develop course materials and instructional strategies.
  4. Grade assignments, exams and other assessments in a timely and fair manner.
  5. Provide feedback and support to students to help them improve their academic performance.
  6. Attend meetings and training sessions with faculty to stay updated on course content and expectations.
  7. Monitor and track student progress and communicate any concerns to faculty.
  8. Proactively identify and address any issues or challenges students may be facing in the classroom.
  9. Serve as a role model and mentor to students, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  10. Support faculty in maintaining a high standard of academic excellence and uphold university policies and procedures.
  11. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
  12. Collaborate with other teaching assistants and faculty to share best practices and improve teaching methods.
  13. Assist with administrative tasks related to course management and student records.
  14. Represent the university and the department in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  15. Continuously strive to improve teaching techniques and contribute to the overall success of the department and university.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Relevant Field: A Teaching Assistant At Johns Hopkins University Should Possess At Least A Bachelor's Degree In The Subject Area They Will Be Assisting With. This Demonstrates A Strong Foundation Of Knowledge And Understanding Of The Curriculum.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Teaching Assistant, One Must Effectively Communicate With Both Students And Faculty Members. This Includes Being Able To Clearly Explain Concepts, Actively Listen To Students' Questions, And Collaborate With Other Tas And Professors.

  • Prior Teaching Or Tutoring Experience: Having Previous Experience As A Tutor Or Teacher Is Highly Valued At Johns Hopkins University. This Demonstrates The Ability To Effectively Communicate Complex Concepts And Work With Students Of Varying Backgrounds And Learning Styles.

  • Strong Organizational And Time-Management Skills: Teaching Assistants Are Often Responsible For Grading Assignments, Creating Lesson Plans, And Managing Their Own Schedule. Therefore, It Is Important To Have Strong Organizational Skills And Be Able To Prioritize Tasks Effectively.

  • Enthusiasm For Education And Willingness To Learn: A Teaching Assistant At Johns Hopkins University Should Be Passionate About Education And Have A Desire To Learn And Grow In Their Role. This Includes Being Open To Feedback And Actively Seeking Opportunities To Improve Teaching Skills.
