If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Primate Keeper at Johns Hopkins University.In this role, you will be responsible for the daily care and management of our primate residents, ensuring their physical and emotional health is maintained. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of primate species, including lemurs, monkeys, and apes.We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with primates in a zoo, sanctuary, or research setting. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is also required.   1. Provide daily care and management for primate residents.
  2. Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of all primates.
  3. Work with a variety of primate species, including lemurs, monkeys, and apes.
  4. Conduct observations and record data on primate behavior and health.
  5. Create and implement enrichment activities to promote physical and mental stimulation for the primates.
  6. Maintain a clean and safe environment for the primates, following all safety protocols.
  7. Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinary staff.
  8. Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement care plans for individual primates.
  9. Participate in training sessions with the primates to promote positive behaviors and improve their socialization skills.
  10. Communicate effectively with other team members and researchers about the well-being and behavior of the primates.
  11. Keep accurate records of daily care, observations, and any medical procedures performed.
  12. Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in primate care and welfare.
  13. Adhere to all ethical guidelines and regulations related to the care and use of animals in research.
  14. Assist with any research projects involving the primates when needed.
  15. Participate in educational and outreach programs to educate the public about primate conservation and welfare.
  16. Continuously assess and improve the care and living conditions for the primates.
  17. Maintain a professional and compassionate attitude towards the primates at all times.
  18. Demonstrate a strong understanding of primate behavior and use this knowledge to promote a positive and enriching environment for the primates.
  19. Train and mentor new staff members or volunteers on proper primate care techniques.
  20. Attend conferences and workshops to further enhance knowledge and skills related to primate care and welfare.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Biology, Zoology, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working With Primates In A Zoo, Sanctuary, Or Research Facility.

  • Knowledge Of Primate Behavior, Nutrition, And Husbandry Practices.

  • Ability To Safely Handle And Restrain Primates, Including Following Safety Protocols And Administering Medications.
