- Collect blood samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensure the accurate labeling and processing of all blood samples.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.
- Follow established protocols and procedures for collecting and processing blood samples.
- Monitor and record patient information, such as name and identification number, to ensure proper sample tracking.
- Communicate effectively with patients to ensure their comfort and understanding during the blood collection process.
- Collaborate with medical staff to ensure timely and accurate delivery of blood samples for testing.
- Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols and procedures.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials according to established guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.
- Continuously update knowledge of phlebotomy techniques and procedures to ensure best practices are followed.
- Identify and report any issues or concerns related to patient care or sample collection.
- Assist with the training and supervision of new phlebotomists.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and their families.
- Represent Johns Hopkins Medicine with professionalism and integrity at all times.
Certification And/Or Licensure: Candidates For A Phlebotomist Position At Johns Hopkins Medicine Should Possess A Valid Certification Or Licensure In Phlebotomy From A Recognized Organization, Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The National Phlebotomy Association (Npa).
Experience: A Minimum Of 1-2 Years Of Experience Working As A Phlebotomist In A Healthcare Setting Is Preferred. This Experience Should Include Proficiency In Venipuncture, Capillary Puncture, And Specimen Collection And Handling.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology Is Essential For A Phlebotomist At Johns Hopkins Medicine. This Includes Knowledge Of Common Laboratory Tests, Abbreviations, And Disease Processes.
Attention To Detail: The Ability To Accurately And Precisely Collect, Label, And Transport Specimens Is Crucial In The Role Of A Phlebotomist. Candidates Should Demonstrate A High Level Of Attention To Detail And The Ability To Follow Established Protocols And Procedures.
Interpersonal And Communication Skills: Phlebotomists At Johns Hopkins Medicine Interact With A Diverse Group Of Patients And Healthcare Professionals On A Daily Basis.
