- Assist surgeons and nurses in the operating room during surgical procedures.
- Ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are prepared and available for surgery.
- Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room at all times.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide assistance as needed.
- Handle and pass surgical instruments to surgeons and nurses during procedures.
- Operate and maintain surgical equipment, including sterilization and cleaning.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and assist with patient positioning and preparation.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control measures.
- Communicate effectively with team members and follow directions from surgeons and nurses.
- Document accurate and detailed records of surgical procedures and supplies used.
- Participate in ongoing training and education to maintain knowledge and skills.
- Assist with patient transport to and from the operating room.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Maintain a professional and compassionate attitude towards patients and their families.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures at all times.
Completion Of An Accredited Surgical Technologist Program: Candidates For An Or Tech/Surgical Technologist Position At Johns Hopkins Medicine Must Have Successfully Completed A Program Accredited By The Commission On Accreditation Of Allied Health Education Programs (Caahep) Or The Accrediting Bureau Of Health Education Schools (Abhes).
Certification As A Surgical Technologist: Candidates Must Hold A Current Certification As A Certified Surgical Technologist (Cst) Through The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa) Or A Tech In Surgery-Certified (Ts-C) Through The National Center For Competency Testing (Ncct).
Experience In A Hospital Setting: Ideal Candidates For This Position Will Have Previous Experience Working As A Surgical Technologist In A Hospital Or Surgical Center Setting. This Experience Should Include Knowledge Of Surgical Procedures, Sterile Technique, And Surgical Instruments And Equipment.
Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills: As A Member Of The Surgical Team, An Or Tech/Surgical Technologist Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Surgeons, Nurses, And Other Team Members. They Must Also Work Well In A Fast-Paced, High-Stress Environment And Be Able To Collaborate With Others To Ensure Successful Outcomes For Patients.
Knowledge Of Hospital Policies And Procedures: Johns Hopkins Medicine Has Specific Policies And Procedures In Place To Ensure The Safety And Well-Being Of Patients. Candidates For This Position Should Have A Strong Understanding Of These Policies And Be Able To Adhere To Them In A Consistent And Accurate Manner.
