Job Description

As a NICU Registered Dietitian, you will play a vital role in this mission by ensuring that our tiniest patients receive proper nutrition for optimal growth and development.   1. Develop and implement nutrition plans for premature and critically ill infants in the NICU, in collaboration with the medical team.
  2. Monitor and assess the growth and development of NICU patients, making adjustments to nutrition plans as needed.
  3. Conduct nutrition assessments and provide education to parents and caregivers on proper feeding techniques and nutritional needs for their infants.
  4. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, and therapists, to ensure coordinated care for NICU patients.
  5. Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in neonatal nutrition and apply this knowledge to patient care.
  6. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient nutrition assessments, interventions, and progress.
  7. Collaborate with the NICU team to develop and implement quality improvement initiatives related to nutrition.
  8. Provide support to families of NICU patients, addressing any concerns or questions related to nutrition.
  9. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and conferences to provide input on patient nutrition status and progress.
  10. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and protocols related to nutrition and patient care.
  11. Serve as a resource for other healthcare professionals on nutrition-related issues in the NICU.
  12. Continuously evaluate and improve upon the nutrition program in the NICU to ensure the highest quality of care for patients.
  13. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive information and situations.
  14. Act as an advocate for the importance of proper nutrition for premature and critically ill infants within the hospital and community.
  15. Attend continuing education opportunities and maintain professional certifications to stay current in the field of neonatal nutrition.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nutrition Or Dietetics: Candidates Must Have A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Nutrition Or Dietetics From An Accredited Institution. This Ensures That They Have The Necessary Knowledge And Skills In The Field Of Nutrition.

  • Registered Dietitian (Rd) Certification: Applicants Must Be A Registered Dietitian (Rd) With The Commission On Dietetic Registration (Cdr). This Certification Demonstrates That The Candidate Has Met The Education And Experience Requirements And Has Passed A National Examination.

  • Clinical Experience In Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Nicu): Candidates Should Have A Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Clinical Experience In A Nicu Setting. This Experience Should Include The Assessment And Management Of Nutrition Needs For Premature And Critically Ill Infants.

  • Knowledge Of Evidence-Based Practice And Current Research: The Nicu Registered Dietitian Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Evidence-Based Practice And Be Able To Apply Current Research To The Nutrition Care Of Neonatal Patients. This Includes Staying Up-To-Date With The Latest Guidelines And Recommendations From Organizations Such As The Academy Of Nutrition And Dietetics And The American Society For Parenteral And Enteral Nutrition.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: The Nicu Registered Dietitian Must Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Collaborate With The Multidisciplinary Team, Including Neonatologists, Nurses, And Other Healthcare Professionals. This Includes The Ability To Provide Education And Counseling To Parents And Caregivers Of Neonatal Patients.
