Job Description

Johns Hopkins Medicine is seeking an experienced and talented Lab Director to lead the Surgical/Anatomic Pathology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management, direction, and oversight of the laboratory. The Lab Director will lead a collaborative team of professionals to ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness of laboratory services.We are looking for a strong leader who is organized, detail-oriented, and has a demonstrated ability to effectively manage daily operations. The ideal candidate will be collaborative and have excellent communication skills with a proven track record of successfully leading laboratory teams. To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, ideally in pathology. A Master's degree or higher in a related field and/or a relevant certification may be preferred.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design, implement, and monitor laboratory workflows and processes to ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness of results.
  2. Lead and direct a collaborative team of laboratory professionals in the Surgical/Anatomic Pathology department.
  3. Develop and implement quality assurance and safety protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  4. Monitor and analyze laboratory performance and initiate process improvements to ensure optimum service.
  5. Develop and manage budgets and resources to ensure cost-effectiveness of laboratory operations.
  6. Determine staffing needs and recruit, hire, and train new personnel.
  7. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  8. Establish and maintain effective relationships with laboratory staff, patients, other departments, and external partners.
  9. Monitor and evaluate laboratory staff performance and provide ongoing training and guidance.
  10. Oversee laboratory operations and equipment maintenance to ensure efficient and safe operations.
