  1. Dispensing Medications: As a Clinical Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for accurately and efficiently dispensing medications to patients according to prescriptions and established protocols. This includes labeling, packaging, and verifying medications for accuracy and completeness.
  2. Inventory Management: You will be responsible for maintaining adequate stock levels of medications, supplies, and equipment in the outpatient pharmacy. This includes monitoring expiration dates, organizing inventory, and placing orders as needed.
  3. Patient Interaction: The role requires you to interact with patients in a professional and courteous manner. You will be responsible for answering questions, providing medication education, and addressing any concerns or issues that may arise.
  4. Prescription Processing: You will be responsible for processing prescriptions, including entering patient and medication information into the pharmacy system, obtaining insurance authorizations, and communicating with healthcare providers as needed.
  5. Compliance and Safety: As a Clinical Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for adhering to all pharmacy laws, regulations, and policies to ensure patient safety and confidentiality. This includes maintaining accurate records, handling medications appropriately, and participating in quality assurance activities.
  6. Teamwork and Collaboration: You will work closely with other members of the pharmacy team, including pharmacists, technicians, and support staff, to ensure the smooth operation of the outpatient pharmacy. This includes assisting colleagues when needed, communicating effectively, and participating in team meetings and projects.
  7. Training and Development: You will have the opportunity to continuously develop your skills and knowledge through on-the-job training and participation in continuing education programs. You will also be responsible for keeping up-to-date with new medications and pharmacy practices.
  8. Quality Improvement: As a member of the Johns Hopkins Medicine family, you will be expected to identify areas for improvement and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and pharmacy operations.

Job Qualifications
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification: Candidates Should Possess A Valid Certification As A Pharmacy Technician From An Accredited Organization, Such As The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (Ptcb) Or The National Healthcareer Association (Nha).

  • Prior Experience In An Outpatient Setting: Ideal Candidates Should Have Previous Experience Working As A Pharmacy Technician In An Outpatient Pharmacy, Preferably In A Hospital Or Healthcare Setting. This Experience Should Include Knowledge Of Outpatient Pharmacy Operations, Medication Dispensing, And Customer Service.

  • Knowledge Of Medication And Pharmaceuticals: Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Different Types Of Medications And Pharmaceuticals, Including Their Uses, Dosages, And Potential Side Effects. This Knowledge Is Essential For Accurately Filling Prescriptions And Providing Patient Education.

  • Familiarity With Pharmacy Software And Technology: The Ideal Candidate Should Be Proficient In Using Pharmacy Software And Technology, Including Electronic Health Records (Ehrs) And Electronic Prescribing Systems. They Should Also Be Comfortable Using Technology To Assist In Medication Dispensing And Inventory Management.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For A Clinical Pharmacy Technician In An Outpatient Setting. Candidates Should Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Patients, Pharmacists, And Other Healthcare Professionals To Ensure Accurate And Timely Medication Dispensing And Patient Care.
