Job Description

If so, we are looking for a Child Life Assistant to join our team at Johns Hopkins Medicine.As a Child Life Assistant, you will work closely with our Child Life Specialists to help children cope with the challenges of hospitalization and promote a positive and healing environment. You will use your creative skills to develop and implement play and recreational activities that facilitate emotional expression, peer interaction, and normalization for our young patients.We are seeking compassionate individuals who have a Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field. Previous experience working with children is required, as well as strong communication and organizational skills.   1. Collaborate with Child Life Specialists to create a supportive and therapeutic environment for pediatric patients and their families.
  2. Utilize knowledge of child development to provide emotional and psychosocial support to young patients during their hospital stay.
  3. Develop and implement age-appropriate play and recreational activities to promote emotional expression, socialization, and normalization for pediatric patients.
  4. Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to assess the needs of patients and create individualized care plans.
  5. Assist in coordinating special events and programming to enhance the hospital experience for pediatric patients.
  6. Maintain a safe and clean playroom environment, ensuring that all toys and materials are age-appropriate and sanitized.
  7. Communicate with patients, families, and staff to provide education and support regarding child life services and resources.
  8. Document and report patient interactions and progress to Child Life Specialists.
  9. Continuously evaluate and adapt interventions and activities to meet the changing needs of patients and families.
  10. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as standards of practice for child life professionals.
  11. Provide emotional support and guidance to families during difficult and stressful situations, such as medical procedures or diagnoses.
  12. Participate in ongoing professional development and attend trainings and conferences to stay current in the field of child life.
  13. Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of patients and families at all times.
  14. Maintain inventory of playroom supplies and equipment and make recommendations for purchasing or replacing items as needed.
  15. Serve as an advocate for pediatric patients and promote their overall well-being and quality of life during their hospital experience.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Or Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 1-2 Years Of Experience Working With Children And Families In A Healthcare Setting.

  • Certified Child Life Specialist (Ccls) Certification Preferred.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Well With Children And Families From Diverse Backgrounds.

  • Knowledge Of Child Development, Medical Terminology, And Coping Techniques For Children In Healthcare Settings.
