- Greet and welcome patients, families, and visitors to the Postpartum/Newborn Nursery unit with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Maintain a positive and welcoming environment for patients and their families, addressing any concerns or questions with empathy and compassion.
- Answer phones, take messages, and direct calls to the appropriate staff members.
- Assist in the admission and discharge process by completing necessary paperwork, verifying insurance information, and coordinating with other departments.
- Schedule appointments and procedures for patients, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Coordinate and maintain unit supplies, including ordering and restocking as needed.
- Update and maintain patient records and charts, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, including nurses, physicians, and other support staff.
- Manage and prioritize multiple tasks, including filing, data entry, and other administrative duties.
- Participate in unit meetings and huddles, providing input and suggestions for improving processes and patient care.
- Monitor inventory levels and report any discrepancies or issues to management.
- Collaborate with other unit secretaries and staff to ensure seamless communication and workflow.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized unit, including patient rooms and common areas.

Strong Organizational Skills: Unit Secretaries In A Postpartum/Newborn Nursery Must Be Able To Manage Multiple Tasks And Prioritize Effectively In A Fast-Paced Environment. This Includes Maintaining Patient Records, Scheduling Appointments, And Managing Supplies.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: As A Unit Secretary, It Is Important To Have A Basic Understanding Of Medical Terminology To Accurately Transcribe Physician Orders And Communicate With Healthcare Professionals.
Computer Proficiency: In Today's Healthcare Industry, Unit Secretaries Must Be Comfortable Using Electronic Health Record Systems And Other Software Programs To Input And Retrieve Patient Information.
