- Greet and welcome patients, families, and visitors to the unit in a friendly and professional manner.
- Answer phone calls and direct them to the appropriate healthcare providers or departments.
- Schedule appointments and coordinate patient admissions and discharges.
- Maintain patient records and ensure all documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers, relaying important information and addressing any concerns or questions.
- Assist with coordinating patient care by communicating with other departments and healthcare providers.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of office and medical supplies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Provide administrative support to the unit by managing paperwork, filing, and data entry.
- Follow all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Assist with coordinating patient transportation and other logistical needs.
- Attend team meetings and provide input for improving processes and procedures.
- Handle financial transactions, such as collecting copays and processing insurance information.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families during their stay.
- Collaborate with other unit secretaries and healthcare professionals to ensure efficient and effective operations on the unit.
Knowledge Of Postpartum And Newborn Care: A Unit Secretary At Highmark Health Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Postpartum And Newborn Care, Including Basic Medical Terminology, Procedures, And Treatments.
Administrative Skills: This Role Requires Strong Organizational Skills, Attention To Detail, And The Ability To Multitask In A Fast-Paced Environment. The Unit Secretary Should Also Have Excellent Communication Skills And Be Able To Maintain Patient Records Accurately.
Experience With Electronic Medical Record Systems: Highmark Health Utilizes Electronic Medical Record Systems For Patient Records. Therefore, The Ideal Candidate Should Have Experience With These Systems And Be Comfortable Using Technology To Manage Patient Information.
Ability To Work In A Team: As A Part Of The Postpartum And Newborn Nursery Unit, The Unit Secretary Will Work Closely With A Team Of Healthcare Professionals. They Should Have Excellent Interpersonal Skills And Be Able To Work Collaboratively With Others.
Understanding Of Patient Privacy Laws: The Unit Secretary Will Handle Sensitive Patient Information And Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Patient Privacy Laws, Such As Hipaa, To Ensure Confidentiality Is Maintained At All Times.
