- Provide high-quality and compassionate care to new mothers and their newborns in the Postpartum & Newborn Nursery unit.
- Assess and monitor the health status of both mother and baby, including vital signs, feeding patterns, and any potential complications.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Educate new mothers on postpartum care, breastfeeding, newborn care, and any other necessary information.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated and efficient care.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
- Respond to and manage any emergency situations that may arise.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Monitor and maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients and their families.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development to stay current with best practices and advancements in maternal and newborn care.
- Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients and their families.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all ethical and legal standards.
- Serve as a role model for other staff members in providing exceptional patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall patient experience.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures, and regulations of Highmark Health and the nursing profession.
Bachelor's Degree In Nursing From An Accredited Institution: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Is Often Required For Rn Positions In Postpartum And Newborn Nursery Units. This Ensures That The Candidate Has Received Comprehensive Training In All Aspects Of Nursing, Including Maternal And Infant Care.
Current Rn License: A Current And Valid Registered Nurse License From The State In Which The Job Is Located Is A Non-Negotiable Qualification For Any Rn Position. This Demonstrates That The Candidate Has Met All State Requirements And Is Legally Authorized To Practice Nursing.
Bls And Nrp Certification: Basic Life Support (Bls) And Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Nrp) Certifications Are Essential For Nurses Working In Postpartum And Newborn Nursery Units. These Certifications Demonstrate The Candidate's Knowledge And Skills In Emergency Response And Resuscitation Techniques For Both Mothers And Infants.
Experience In Postpartum And Newborn Care: Previous Experience In A Postpartum And Newborn Nursery Setting Is Highly Desirable For An Rn Position In This Field. This Experience Allows The Candidate To Hit The Ground Running And Requires Less Training And Orientation Time.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Working In A Postpartum And Newborn Nursery Unit Requires Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills. Nurses Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With New Mothers, Families, And Other Healthcare Professionals To Provide The Best Care For Their Patients.
